  1. This has been taken at the Panoramic 1453 Museum in Istanbul. As many other countries have similar Panoramic sites like the Battle of Borodino in Russia, this particular Museum is part of the larger campaign to build 21st century nationalisms through recreation of historical events. This photograph so poignantly builds the case for the use and misuse of history (see Nietzsche’s small book on the topic). Young people and visitors from all walks of life, willingly become spectators not only beneath the dome, but as we sit before our TV screens. Always far removed from the bloodshed, they (we) all become spectators of the slaughter of our own brotherhood and humanity.

This photograph therefore has captured an ironic and horrific generation of those who watch war, a perfect representation of our reckless and yet once again bloodly times for the 21st century. When we will ever learn? Thank you for showing us ourselves Cem.
